    The Outer Banks is an American action-adventure mystery teen drama streaming television series created by Josh Peet, Jonas Peet, and Shannon Burke that premiered on Netflix on April 15, 2020.[4][5] In December 2021 , the series was renewed for a third season which premiered on February 23, 2023.[6][7] In February 2023, prior to the premiere of the third season, the series was renewed for a fourth season.[8] It The series is set in a community in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and follows the conflict between two groups of youth in the community.

    The Outer Banks is set in a coastal town along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where there is a stark social divide between wealthy seasonal residents and working-class locals (nicknamed “Kooks” and “Pogues” respectively). The show follows a group of Pogue teenagers who live in The Cut, and are determined to find out what happened to the missing father of the group’s leader, John B. Along the way, they discover a legendary treasure that is connected to John B’s father. [4]

    Chasing the law and a wealthy group of kooks from the Figure Eight, the Pogs try to overcome obstacles such as love, fighting, friendship and money.

    Chase Stokes as John B. Rutledge, [9] the ringleader of the Pogues, Sarah Cameron’s love interest and later her boyfriend.
    Madeline Cline as Sarah Cameron, [9] Ward Cameron’s daughter, John B’s love interest, and later his girlfriend. She has been called the Princess of the Cooks by many, however, her rebellious side often rejects the Cook life and mixes her up with the Pogues.
    Madison Bailey as Kiara “Kay” Carrera, [9] the daughter of a successful restaurant owner who hangs out with the Pogues. She is technically a kook because she comes from a rich family and lives in a figure eight, but she is rejected by the Pogues because of her association with them.

    Rudy Panko as JJ Maybank, [9] John B’s carefree, loyal best friend since the third grade who is abused by his father.

    Charles Easton as Ward Cameron, [9] the father of Sarah, Wheezy and Rafe, a wealthy business owner who lives on a wealthy section of the Outer Banks known as the “Figure Eight”.

    On May 3, 2019, it was announced that Netflix had given a series order to production for a first season of ten episodes. The series was created by Josh Peet, Jonas Peet, and Shannon Burke and exOne was prepared. On July 24, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a second season.[13] On December 7, 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a third season.[6] On February 18, 2023, before the third season premiered, Netflix renewed the series for a fourth season.[8]

    Along with the initial series announcement, it was reported that Chase Stokes, Madeleine Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Davis, Rudy Panko, Charles Easton, Austin North, and Drew Starkey were cast in the lead roles.[4] 2 On July 2019, Caroline Arapoglou joined the cast in a recurring role.[14] On October 22, 2020, Elizabeth Mitchell was cast in a recurring role for the second season.[11] April 15, 2021 , Carlisia Grant joined the cast in a recurring capacity for the second season.[10] Upon renewal for the third season, Grant was promoted to a series regular. On June 23, 2022, Andy McQueen, Fiona Palomo, and Lou Ferrigno Jr. were cast in undisclosed capacities for the third season.[15] On July 5, 2022, Stokes’ stand-in double, Alexander “AJ” Jennings, Charleston , was killed in a hit-and-run accident near South Carolina.


    Co-creator Jonas Peet envisioned filming in Wilmington, North Carolina, but Netflix chose not to film the show there due to the state’s House Bill 2 legislation.[17] Principal photography for the first season 1 began in May 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina.[18] Filming for the second season began on August 31, 2020 and concluded on April 2, 2021.[19][20][21][22] Filming for the third season began Started on 15 February 2022.
